Nut SL is our uber-light hardtail mountain bike designed to be lightning-quick and nimble, with racing in mind. It features our unique Shockwave vibration dampening system and a range of high-end components.

The Request
We designed this stunning bike after collecting all the anthropometric data we needed and discussing exactly what the bike will be used for. The brief was for a mountain bike that could be used as an alternative to the road bike - single-track riding is a particular favourite of our customer; but more importantly super-light and agile as he is going to compete in MTB races.

The Solution
With all this is mind we gave the frame a long and low top-tube to keep the centre of gravity of the bike and give it a lighter feel when out of the saddle. It also gives the bike a fast and aggressive look.

One of the highlights of the frame is Atum22's Shockwave seat stay bridge. It is a lattice of titanium designed to provide vertical dampening by neutralising vibrations experienced when riding on rocky/rutted ground before they get to the seat-tube. This will improve the comfort of the bike and reduce vibration-induced fatigue.

At the front of the bike the customer requested Rock Shox Sid World Cup suspension forks, the ultimate light weight fork for high performance XC racing. Coupled this is the Hope Mono Mini Pro disc brake, which is one of the lightest brakes on the market at the moment. For the rear brakes, in order to reduce the weight even further we went with the slightly controversial decision to mount V-brakes. The reason being that you need far less braking power for the rear wheel as most of the stopping force is generated at the front wheel. The V-brakes will be enough to lock out the rear wheel which is as much as you need at the back.

This controversial weight saving theme is evident on the light weight USE cockpit where the rear derailleur is controlled by the ergonomically efficient SRAM trigger shifter; and the less-frequently-used front gears are changed via grip shift. Also, to enable me to get good leverage when out the saddle we added a pair of bar ends weighing just 56gr a pair!

The seatpost is the ever reliable and light A22 Titanium post and sitting on this is the MTB version of the Fizik saddle.

The Result
At 8.92kg and with a titanium skeleton this bike is meant for moving mountains as well as descending them, and its virtually indestructable!
